It was a bit of a reality check being told I have both acne and eczema at almost 21 years old, however knowing it isn't entirely my fault did make me feel slightly better.
A few weeks ago, I visited the doctors after gaining spots all over my boobs and a super itchy head. I've popped a pic at the bottom of this post of my boob, totally covered in whiteheads and some really sore spots, this was on both of them at the time. I was soon told that due to the single hormone in my Mirena Coil (which I've written a lengthy post about) I now have a hormone imbalance, which has caused the changes in my skin. My only choice for contraception is pretty much to stick with my Mirena coil, despite it having a large effect on my physical appearance and my mental health, as the coil has been brilliant for my PCOS, and I’d rather stick with the method that’s best for my body and deal with the dodgy side effects.
I’m currently waiting to have some blood tests to check what’s actually going on in my body, but for now I’m on a series of different medication, including a special shampoo for my scalp, as well as tablets and cream for acne. Throughout my life I’ve always had a pretty perfect skin and I never suffered with spots as a teenager, so to be almost 21 years old, it’s slightly strange having to pay a lot more attention to the condition of my skin. However, I suppose it has allowed me to look after myself a little bit more and start to look after my hair which is something I rarely did growing up.
Unfortunately this all comes down to my PCOS, which has got worse as i gained weight, as I have had to choose the coil, rather than most girls my age who take the pill. As mentioned in my other post about my Mirena coil, I tried the pill at 15 years old and again at 19 years old, and unfortunately it did not help with my irregular and heavy bleeding. For now, I'm going to stick it out with my coil and keep a close eye on my side effects, which I am certain I'll be okay with, however having boobs covered in white heads definitely isn't the most attractive thing in the world! God it's great being a girl isn't it?
If you too are a sufferer of PCOS and contraception side effects, I've linked some sites below that I've found super helpful, again any advice is welcomed!
Until next time, Mol <3
